February 4, 2010 - New Semester... Long Time Since the Last Update
As the spring semester starts up, so to does the spring ultimate season. As of now, we're practicing three times a week, with a mix of conditioning and other practices (when possible). Conditioning is Monday at 7:00 pm and also either Wednesday or Thursday at 7:00 pm (two days since not everyone could make either day). We'll meet in the field house for these to get in shape for the upcoming season. Also, Sunday afternoons at 2:00, we have reserved Davis Gym to give us a chance to throw aroud a bit, as well as improve our durango boot game. So far we're looking to go to a decent amount of tournaments this semester, in hopes to make up for our disappointing lack of tournaments in the fall. I'll do my best to get updates up on here a bit more often.
February 4,, 2010 - Fall Wrapup (Should've done this earlier, I forget most of it now)
After the first week of practice, we had been maintaining a decent amount of frosh, which we were very happy with. After graduating our seniors from last year, we were looking to keep a decent amount of numbers from the initial practice sessions. The team continued to get better, and the frosh were quickly learning the game. After a few unfortunate mishaps with tournament planning and weather, we finally were able to go to our first tournament... in the first week of November. We travelled to Shippensburg for a Friday evening/Saturday tournament under the lights. Though our record for the weekend was nothing to really brag about, our first tournament as a team was very helpful in meshing our team. Injuries had plagued the team the entire semester, so even a short-handed team was able to piece together moments of brilliance at times. After returning from Ship, we had a week to rest up before our home tournament. The field was dropped to only 8 after other tournaments were rescheduled to the same date, but the tournament still ran smoothly for the most part. Mud played much better than the previous week, going undefeated to the finals (including a win over the alums). Due to the fact that Wodatch was not playing for the alums on Sunday, Old was able to pull off a victory in a very close game. Even with the loss though, Mud was able to gain a lot of confidence for the spring season.
A great part of the home tournament was when Harvey Edwards (founder of Mudsharks ultimate and UPA Hall of Famer) stopped by to watch the festivities. He shared stories about the original days of Mudshark ultimate before throwing the disc around a bit... and let me tell you, he hasn't lost his touch. An time-out was called for a mid-game speech from the HoFer, before both teams brought it in for Sh-Sh-Mud. Harvey then got the honorary pull to resume play before heading off for the day. It was great to see Harvey out there, representing the history of our team.

July 16, 2009 - First Attempt at a Newsletter/Season Wrap-up
Due to my current arrangement downtown (and lack of internet) I took a brief hiatus from writing this, hence the major delay of it being put up. Follow the link to read a little bit about how the 2008/2009 season finished up for the Mudsharks. Feel free to send me any comments/suggestions for future ones. In addition, any incoming freshmen (or current Bucknellians who may be new to the game) interested in learning more about the team, shoot me or any of other captains an email and we'll be happy to chat.

May 12, 2009 - Couple Updates
After 10 months, its good to know that although it may be easier to update, we have done no such thing. I added freshman profiles finally, bios will be up as soon as I get them. Hopefully we can get on updating a few other things as well.
September 25, 2008 - Freshmen/Shroomfest
The year is going well so far. We have a good number of strong freshmen coming out. We won the first tournament we went to (Founders Club Sectionals Div II). Shroomfest is coming up on Oct 4 and 5. Should be a fun weekend.
August 24, 2008 - Interest Meeting
If you're interested in playing for the Mudsharks this year, come to the interest meeting on Monday September 1st at 7pm in the LC Forum. You can also check out our table at Activities Unlimited this Friday.
July 28, 2008 - Join the Team!
Interested in playing ultimate at Bucknell this year? The Mudsharks are looking for athletes to add to our roster. Have you only played frisbee with your friends after school? Never play at all? Play on your high school team? Doesn't matter. All skill levels are wanted. We'll teach you how to play.
The Mudsharks go to 4-5 tournaments a semester. We have an A and a B team, so everyone will get playing time.
If you're interested in playing with us or have any questions, send the captains an email. We'll provide more information about practices at the start of the semester. Look for updates here, signs around campus, or check us out at the fall activities fair.
July 21, 2008 - New Website
We have a new website! I wanted a simpler design that's easier to read and update, so here it is. This is the basic design. We'll get the banner, picture, and quote of the week updated soon. |
