Sidecar available late March | 02.28.09

The Spring 2009 Sidecar, focusing on social conscience and service work, is on track for printing and distribution on campus by late March. The magazine will be in uphill and downhill LC, the library entryway and 7th Street Cafe.

New in the Spring issue will be color photo-essays from the Bucknell Sociology and Anthropology Society (BASS), as well as from members of the winter 2009 Bucknell Brigade trip to Nicaragua and the Katrina Recovery Team trip to Louisiana and Mississippi. The issue also includes a foreword by Bucknell creative writing professor and nonfiction writer, Chris Camuto.

The Spring issue will feature the Katrina Recovery Team's service work and experiences in the Big Easy. Articles and photo-essays from students, faculty and staff, including a short piece by Provost Smyer, will show what was accomplished on the trip while also drawing attention to the work that needs to be done, both by members of the Bucknell community and by every citizen.

Call for submissions | 11.03.08

The Sidecar, Bucknell’s travel and nonfiction literary magazine, is accepting essay and photo-essay submissions for its spring 2009 issue.

IF YOU HAVE studied abroad, participated in service-learning trips, completed fieldwork or research for class, have done anything else off campus that would be interesting to share, or are a transfer or exchange student...

THEN THINK ABOUT submitting a 500- to 1500-word essay for publication. If you have photographs of your off-campus experiences, submit them along with captions in the form of a photo-essay.

Deadline for submissions for the spring issue is January 2.
