What is Environmental Club All About?

At Bucknell we realize that the causes of our environmental problems are often very complex. There are often times no clear solutions or it's hard to change anything overnight. However, decisions being made today have serious ramifications for future generations. While people are beginning to recognize this, population growth and the rise in power of large corporations are a source of many problems. Many of our politicians and decision-makers are influenced by money, corporate interests, and re-elections . Therefore, we attempt to empower students and communities on a grass-roots level to challenge these ways of thought and conserve the environment for future generations.

What we do at Bucknell

Many Bucknell students are familiar with environmental and social justice issues that affect them, but feel overwhelmed with the size and complexity of these issues. We try to give the students the tools they need to organize and work with other to promote positive change. We rely on each other for strength and support.

Committees

We have organized ourselves into rough committees in which many different people are working on many different projects.

Environmental Awareness - working with BSG to create a bike program on campus, looking at putting signs around campus to remind people about different ways they can help the environment

Background - working with different services on campus to make sure they are environmentally friendly or encouraging them to become environmentally friendly

Projects - working on creating an Environmental Contract for downtown businesses, asking them to become more environmentally friendly and working on creating a model environmentally friendly dorm room that can be set up for students to view.

Lobbying - looking at different issues in the news and determining what we can do in terms of letter/postcard writing campaigns.
