As career success becomes more dependent upon
post graduate study, a truly valuable undergraduate education is one that
is broad rather than highly specialized. Many suggest that today's
student should take two things away from college: the ability to write clearly
and the ability to interact with people.
For over 150 years one organization has
been the leader in the social development of college men. This
organization is the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and it has helped
shaped the lives of over 280,000 members.
SAE's core values are loyalty, honor,
friendship, and fraternity and these values are necessary to live by the
fraternities creed - "The True Gentlemen" - an ultimate guide
to human interaction.

Community
Service Update
Hi, my name is Charlie Hickes, and I am the community service chair for our chapter. I wanted to take this position because I wanted to give back to a community that has given us so much, but also because my brother was the community service chair two years ago, and he said it was one of the most rewarding things he has done while in the fraternity.
Community Service is one of our most important functions. Not only is it mandatory for our brothers to complete 12 hours in order to pass our Plan for Prominence, but also because it is one of the main components that we live by, “The True Gentleman.” We feel obligated to give back to a community that has given the fraternity so much.
So far this semester, we have complete a variety of service activities, the largest being our Chocolate Festival. This event was held at the Lewisburg Hotel, where we catered a chocolate themed party for adults, and also had a similar party but for children at the Donald Heiter Community Center. We also participated in the Lewisburg Thaw-Out. For this, we took a Friday afternoon and helped the stores of downtown Lewisburg with “spring cleaning,” as well as helped with the upkeep of the cemetery. We have also participated in downtown clean ups, where we would go and pick up trash in downtown Lewisburg, and help clean the streets.
Next semester, we plan on working at the Donald Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg, which is a favorite of many brothers. This is our most rewarding service project, as we get to help the children of Lewisburg with homework, and play games with them.
The brothers have done a fantastic job completing service hours, while also giving back to the community. We are all looking forward to continuing our service next semester, and plan to exceed the 12 hours per brother by the end of next semester.

A Note From
the EA
Greetings,
After a brief transition period at the beginning of the semester, I can confidently say that the chapter has settled into the new calendar year. Thanks to the past Executive Board, the transition was made especially easy for myself and the others on the current Board.
For this reason, all those who hold positions within the house have made great strides in their respective areas over the past semester. This is undoubtedly a result of the hard work and dedication of each and every brother as well, though. As a chapter we have taken part in numerous philanthropic events, and have been steadily contributing community service hours. This is largely due to the hard work of Philanthropy Chair, Matt Hotard ‘11, and Community Service Chair, Charlie Hickes ’11. In these two areas, which are of utmost importance to the local community, SAE Penn Zeta continues to set a standard for all other fraternities on campus.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of our house alumni board who have provided invaluable advice and support thus far. The input and dedication of our alumni is what truly keeps us strong as a fraternity and allows us to continue improving at all times. Furthermore, we look forward to setting up an event for Homecoming weekend in the fall and hope to have a large alumni turnout. Please remember that our doors are always open to SAEs, however, and we would love to have you stop by whenever possible.
Phi Alpha,
Cole Ciaburri 11', Eminent Archon
