Kappa Alpha Theta's National Philanthropy
Kappa Alpha Theta's National Philanthropy is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Our chapter contributes to CASA of Lycoming County PA. CASA is a program which appoints volunteers to handle cases of abused children. The volunteers help to guide the youth through the judicial system and serves as their voice, since these youths cannot afford lawyers. Each year more than 300,000 children are abused, abandoned, or neglected. They are removed from their homes for their own protection, but become the wards of the court. Because the child welfare system is so overburdened, CASA has stepped in to help. In 2005, 54,847 CASA volunteers donate over 4.9 million hours serving an estimated 226,204 children.
This year, the Epsilon Pi Chapter of kappa Alpha Theta had a candy sale for Valentine's Day to raise money for CASA. In the fall, we will hold a new fundraiser event called Kicks for CASA. Each Kappa Alpha Theta chapter holds fundraisers to support this organization.
Theta Involvement in the Local Community In addition to raising money for our national philanthropy, Bucknell's Thetas volunteer in Lewisburg and the surrounding area to contribute to the local community.
