IFC Minutes - 2/26/08

IFC meeting called to order by Joe Valickus at 8pm. Chapters Absent: Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa Sigma. (Held at Sig Chi)

1. Special Guest- Shane Riccio: Carl Riccio Trust- Brother dislocated his neck and became a quadriplegic. Met with Christopher Reeve and Governor Corzine about attempting to walk again, and wants to go to law school after graduation. The charity donations would be great for Carl because he needs an aid for everyday activities. Money would go to stem cell research, which could end up saving many lives. To find out more about him, go to carlricciotrust.com

2. Special Guest- Caitlin Doolin and Page Kannor: 1 in 4 Petition- Helps to prevent and provide awareness for sexual assault. Greek life is a huge part of the social aspect at Bucknell. This program could be a yearly reminder to get people to think about the issues of sexual assault. How do chapters feel about the 1 in 4 program coming to Chapter in order to promote awareness?

3. Special Guest- Poppy Goforth: Directory of Community Service- Here to talk about Jungle Café Events. It is a nightclub for youths in Milton. They want to target high-school age students on Friday nights, and have Fraternities and Sororities host them. 3 nights this semester are planned, and want a Fraternity and Sorority to collaborate each night. The times would be 8 PM to Midnight, and we could pick themes and have around 8 members to attend each. The dates are March 21st, April 11th, and April 18th.  The Saturday night parties are for middle-school students. A High-School teacher wants to build a school in Cambodia, and all the money for the 6 weeks (March 21st- April 26th) will go towards this school. Some Saturday nights are available too if anyone would like to do it then.  Possibly providing a shuttle to appeal to students who want to come out. Meeting with the students and their advisor this Thursday if you are interested in seeing the location and hearing the conversations at 5:30.

4. Alumni Liaison - Greg Wagner:  Fast Facts Newsletter is finished and will be e-mailed to the Alumni. The All-Greek Alumni Meeting will be after Spring Break.

5. GAMMA - Penton Mott: The Duke speaker expressed initial enthusiasm. Tell Risk Managers that after Spring Break there may be bi-weekly meetings with them about basic Alcohol Awareness.

6. GAME - Chen Mao: No new report.

8. Community Service/Philanthropy - Scott Shapiro: Updated Cleanup Roster will be sent out soon. Next meeting we will have narrowed the MPP recipients to 4, and we will vote soon after.

9. Special Events - Jack Swain: (absent) SERF forms are due March 7th. Chapters need to offer a few brothers to GMT between Noon and 2 PM. You will be notified about that in the future. Check out information about the 30 case rules. House Party Mugs will be voted on in the near future. The vote will not come to the Presidents.

10. Secretary - Chris Petersen: Greek Articles will begin to appear on the website. Send any articles, pictures, etc. that you want to appear on the website in order to give you the press you deserve.

11. Recruitment - Arjun Raman: Continue to send the Meet the Greeks photos to Arjun at this time.

12. Treasurer - Jeff Pike: Tried to get 1000 more dollars from Appropriations for House Party. We will find out tomorrow if we are going to receive it.

13. VP-External - Abe Brodach: Delegate some members of your chapter to help out with All Campus Olympics. SEND IN YOUR ALPHA TO OMEGA articles by this weekend.

14. VP-Internal - Tom Leaman: (absent) In the process of getting money from RHA for the chapters. E-mail Tom if you want to be on the Constitution Committee.

15. President - Joe Valickus: 1 in 4 Presentation is next Tuesday. There is concern about the Card Access. If there are any more, continue to e-mail Joe. Chapter Risk Management- some parties are not managed properly, so make sure to manage them properly so we can appeal to Public Safety. 4 Chapter have been cited for violations with the wristbands. This is a way to minimize liability so make sure people are there to properly issue the wristbands. Any chapters interested in Chapter specific tables at the Campus Activity Fair, talk to Joe. NGLA- IFC and Panhellenic Council were found with alcohol, so we were asked to leave hours early. We will be attending next year. We apologize for this. If you have questions, talk to Mary or Joe himself or herself because the Council will not be speaking.

16. Panhellenic- Mary O’Sullivan: We apologize again for NGLA’s this weekend. Delta Gamma wants people involved in Anchor Splash. Some members of Panhellenic disaffiliated until Bid Day so do not talk about what sorority they are in.

17. Public Safety- Officer Snyder: Donut Making Event information will be relayed soon.

18. Greek Advisor - Dean Marrara: (absent) When Chapters get the risk management papers in, even if they are correct, if they are covered in beer or stained, it is still a violation. Be careful about the risk management of your chapters.
