IFC Minutes - 1/30/08

IFC meeting called to order by Joe Valickus at 8pm. Chapters absent: Kappa Alpha Psi (Held at Chi Phi)

1. Special Guest- Tyler Dinucci: Invite LGTB to your house so that you may become a safe space. Safe space recognizes an acceptance for any brothers, staff, administrators, etc. Freshman girls and guys concerned about Recruitment for next year. E-mail cwinkler@bucknell.edu  if you have any questions. Counts for PfP for diversity.

2. Special Guest- Bill McLean: Student Leadership Institute is an institute that brings in prestigious alums to come in and speak. For example, David West, CEO of Hershey Foods, will be in attendance It is only 5 dollars to register. It will take place on Saturday, February 16th. 12-5:30.

3. Alumni Liaison - Greg Wagner: Need Alumni information. All Greek alumni meeting to get contact information, money. Fast facts- newsletter that goes to Greek alumni to tell how Bucknell is doing.

4. GAMMA - Penton Mott: Alcohol Awareness- more events with sororities that do not include alcohol. Encourage more non-alcoholic events. Event in spring to bring together all frats and sororities. Possibly a sporting competition. Avoid weekend evening meetings. Maybe a bowling competition. Open Forum on Public Safety- Question/Answer session with Public Safety to educate us on policies. Alternative is to have a Public Safety Officer come to Chapter houses and have a Q&A there. Forum is preferred.

5. GAME - Chen Mao: Co-op Community Service Events. Possibly plan Multicultural Organization co-op charity event in order to help the community.

6. Community Service/Philanthropy - Scott Shapiro: Polar Bear Plunge- register until Friday.
Poppi Goforth- Lambda is helping sell LC tickets. Plan Philanthropy events with sororities. Any Million Penny Project charity group suggestions- e-mail Scott.

7. Special Events - Jack Swain: House Party- Talk to your chefs about cooking food for the event. Orange Fencing- you are responsible for any fencing around your house. Facilities offers discounted rate.

8. Secretary - Chris Petersen: Minutes will be posted on the website from now on. Looking in to adding photo identification for IFC members on the website.

9. Recruitment - Arjun Raman: Upcoming Superbowl- Great opportunity for recruitment.
Pictures for Meet the Greeks. Also, bigger chapters need 25 guys at least for representation. Smaller chapters need as many as possible.  Meet The Greeks will be in Weiss center. Keep tabs on your Recruitment Chair to make sure they are doing their jobs.

10. Treasurer - Jeff Pike: (absent) Formal Budget- We will be working on that in the near future.
Also, Dues are due Feb 5. (6 dollars a member).

11. VP-External - Abe Brodach: Presidents send your articles for Alpha to Omega.

12. VP-Internal - Tom Leaman: GMT- let everyone know who we are and what we do. We should not have to wait out in the cold to be granted access to your parties. RHA- Talk to your PAs and tell them to get in touch with Tom if you want money for house purchases..

13. President - Joe Valickus: Arming of Public Safety Survey handed out. Public Safety feedback- any issues, let Joe know. Admitted Students Day- Just designate Greek tables rather than individual Chapters. Joe will let office know that some chapters are opposed. Office hours- IFC and Panhellenic will start to hold Office Hours as an opportunity to reach out to Greeks and community. President’s Open Forum- IFC will start to hold lunches once a month with all Presidents to discuss any problems without the presence of administration. Focus the nation- PfP credit- anything but the lunch counts for Education aspect of PfP. IFC Constitution- Joe will be accepting revisions until next IFC meeting. Alternative food and beverages- Need a theme and appropriate food and drinks for a registered party in order for any forms to be signed by Dean Marrara.

14. Panhellenic- Mary O’Sullivan: Sororities want more positive feedback about Greek life. Go to any sorority events advertised on campus.

 15. Public Safety- Sergeant James: Chapters are doing a good job of policing our own parties.
Chief may or may not be able to get a forum together; it will be limited with varying work shifts. Public Safety will be glad to talk about any issues or concerns.

15. Greek Advisor - Dean Marrara: Continue to speak up with concerns. That is what you are here for as Presidents. Share alcohol poisoning article with chapters. Updated about important upcoming dates. Have fun at Superbowl, but do not drink if you are underage and do not serve the freshman alcohol. Housing list due Feb. 1st.  Feb 1st is also when Chapter Academic Achievement forms should be updated. PA applications due.  If you are recruiting new members this spring, send him a list of their names. Finally, recognize Joe and Mary for all they are doing for our system.
