General Council Meeting Minutes
February 1 8, 2008

  • Meeting was called to order at 5:30
  • Roll Call
    • All present

    • Jennifer Mattive: T&D’s Cats of the World, Exotic Animal Refuge
      • Permanent home for over 200 animals; provide mental and physical care
      • 60+ cats (leopards, lions, tigers) that eat 12,000 lbs of meat each month!
      • Educate the public; assist in state and local cases of welfare issues
      • What they need
        • Donations (money and food?)
        • Volunteers (construction, animal care, website updates, etc.)

    • Renee Perry: Powder Puff Football Tournament
      • Chi Omega is co-sponsoring philanthropy event with TKE
      • Sunday April 6th
      • Teams of 7-10 players (possible pledge-class rivalries?)
      • Cash prize for winners; registration fee about $60/team

    • Vote on previous minutes
      • Unanimously passed
    • By-Laws
      • Mary presented the proposed changes
      • Can be found on her public space (mto002)
      • Will vote on changes at next Panhel meeting
    • “Questioning the Greeks”
      • Only the negative side of the issue is portrayed
      • Need to focus on getting more positive press (check out this week’s Bucknellian!)
      • Women’s Resource Center might want to explain their stance; want sorority members to feel comfortable using this resource
      • Some of the “facts” referenced are not true
      • Very one-sided; fails to represent our choice in decision (eg: Houses)
      • consider emailing all faculty and staff with a link when “Alpha to Omega” is printed to increase positive publicity

      • Still needs dues from Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Gamma by Feb 25

        • Self-guided tour through African history

        • Food + $1 admission; proceeds go to Civil Rights Spring Break Trip

      • Collecting vintage jewelry this week in the LC
      • Proceeds support Donald Heiter Community Center
      • Chapter is now an LGBT safe space

      • Proud of all those who received Greek Awards; congrats on hard work!
      • Looking forward to new member retreat on Saturday
    • Kappa Alpha Theta: Casey Carr-Jones

    • Pi Beta Phi: Jillian Harvey
      • Voted unanimously to make both suite and chapter an LGBT safe space
      • Created sub-committees under executive positions to allow everyone to get involved and increase communication

    • Next Meeting: Tuesday, Feb 19 @ Tau Kappa Epsilon, 8:30pm
    • Feedback on issues with Public Safety so he can talk to them about it
    • Weekly office hours (more specifics to come!)
    • Card Key Access; let him know about concerns
  • Advisor’s Notes: Dean Marrara
    • Congratulations to Greek Award Winners
    • Look for information on upcoming eating disorder programs
    • HPV program sponsored by Panhel will count as Gender Issues Program for P4P
    • NGLA conference this weekend
    • Will be out of the office 2/21-2/28
    • NO Greek Events will be approved April 25-27 (Trustees weekend & Crysalis)

    • Clarification of motion last week
      • allow colonizing group to pledge to chapter size is only a suggestion
      • this would allow COB until chapter average (120) is reached
      • last week it was motioned to allow Chi Omega to COB until chapter average is reached, but must vote to approve this for the new chapter first

      • If extension is passed, Chi Omega can recruit until they reach chapter average

      • Stipulation passed (Vote: 5/6-yes, 1/6-no, 0/6-abstain)

      • If extension passes, begin the process in Spring 2009 (postpone one year)
