Panhellenic Minutes - 2/11/08

General Council Meeting Minutes
February 1 1, 2008

  • Meeting was called to order at 6:00
  • Roll Call
    • All present
  • Guests
    • Dean Remley and Chief Friedberg: Electronic entry to residence halls
      • Inform student leaders of “Access Control Program”
      • Discussion began 10 months ago after Virginia Tech incident
      • All residence hall exterior doors (except the mods) will have Card Access
      • Currently concentrating on 290 exterior doors in 40 residential buildings; Eventually academic buildings and interior doors (Roberts, Hunt)
      • Timeline
        • Feb 25: start construction on various halls
        • April thru summer: install access/swipe boxes
        • Completed by August 1st
      • keep students informed about when construction will be on what buildings
      • all workers will wear badges; Work hours: M-F 9-5, S/S 11-7
      • only enter hallway space (if need room access, they will be escorted)
      • if any privacy problems, contact Dean Remley or Chief Friedberg
      • looking into privacy solutions (possible curtain during work hours)
      • establish efficient and convenient card office for replacements/ problems
      • one card does all (dining, residence hall access, library, ID)
      • will be looking for input on policies/procedures for students
    • Mindy Harris: Order of Omega
      • Bucknell’s Greek Honor Society
      • Accepts Junior/ Senior Greek members based on character, scholarship, leadership, service (less than 5% accepted)
      • Invite members of your chapter to apply
      • Applications due March 15 to Greek Office or Mindy (box c326)

    • Vote on previous minutes
      • Unanimously passed
    • Read “Questioning the Greeks”; discuss next week at Panhel meeting

      • Email Mary with any changes
      • Reviewing the election process
      • Changes will be presented next week; vote Feb 25

      • Encourage members to attend; represent chapter
      • Attire: business casual

        • Wednesday April 16, first years in Hunt from 7:30-10pm
        • Possible re-cap email for First years with class who cannot attend
        • work on issue of how to let girls participate who have to come late
    • Erin Williams: Treasurer
      • Will present budget at next meeting; vote on budget Feb 25
      • Dues: $5/ member (based on last semester count, includes those abroad) by Feb 25; make checks to Panhellenic Association

      • Meeting minutes will now be available on website; no more emails

      • collaborating with Poppy Goforth on service opportunities

      • instead of assigning projects to one sorority, maybe share it between 2 or 3 in an effort to increase bonding between chapters

        • “SAE Remembers Collin Marren” at Big Andy’s
        • Tickets $25, Transportation provided
        • Proceeds benefit Bucknell Scholarship Fund
        • Alesandra and SAE member will sell tickets at chapters next week

    • Next Meeting: Monday, Feb 11 @ Sigma Phi Epsilon, 8:00pm
    • Meetings have improved Public Safety relations; keep them informed of any problems/concerns
    • New design for House Party Mug
      • Competition; winner gets $50 + free House Party admission
      • Designs to Jack Swain or Joe Valickus
  • Advisor’s Notes: Dean Marrara
    • Greek Awards: make sure that nominees are in attendance!
      • Hunt Hall Housing List due by March 1st
    • Important Dates are changing; look at website for the most current
    • Thanks for great turn-out at Hockey game on Saturday; raised $1075
  • Officer Snyder
    • Appreciates Kappa Alpha Theta for inviting him to talk at chapter
    • Extends invitation to any other chapters (him or Chief Friedberg)
    • Welcomes suggestions, comments, and concerns
