General Council Meeting Minutes
January 28, 2008
Meeting was called to order at 5:30
- Roll Call
- Introductions
- Sarah Surgala: Student Leadership Institute
- February 16, noon-5:30pm, snacks and dinner provided
- Sessions on leadership and networking skills
- Cost: $5 (must register by Feb 12)
- Stacey Swift: Extension
- Extension Committee formed (Stacey and Doan Huynh, co-chairs)
- Please discuss with your chapter; clear-up questions and rumors
- Continue the process? Vote at Panhel meeting on Feb 18
- President Reports: Mary O’Sullivan
- Vote on previous minutes
- Greek Night at Club Hockey Game
- February 9, tickets cost $3
- 18 of 22 eligible players are Greek (so come support them!)
- Philanthropy: 50% profit to local youth hockey league and 25% to the Sorority and Fraternity with the most fans
- Counts as University sponsored P4P event
- Vagina Monologues
- Feb 15 & 16
- Group tickets now available (P4P event)
- President Office Hours
- Mary O’Sullivan & Joe Valickus will be available in the niche 1-2 hrs/wk

- Each chapter needs to electronically submit 5 photos (eew006@bucknell.edu ); some group pictures (no boys or alcohol)
- Open Suites: April 15, first years in Hunt from 7:30-10pm
- Meet the Greeks
- Each chapter needs to submit list of 35 attendees by March 17
- No cheering or signs allowed
- Skit Round
- Will NOT be completely eliminated for upcoming recruitment
- Will enforce a time limit on the skits
- Tentative plan to decrease budget each year to comply with no-frills recruitment guidelines (looking into solutions)
- Service Night
- Need project ideas
- Suggested: Jared boxes for Geisinger Hospital (provide entertainment for terminally-ill children)

- Consider planning a service trip for Spring Break with sorority friends; great way to help, have fun, and get hours! (contact Pi Phi girls who went over winter break)

- Polar Bear Plunge Feb 2, (1 service hour + philanthropy $)
- Blood Drive Jan 30, walk-ins welcome!

- Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village could use volunteers to play games or talk with the residents; contact Emily Kerstetter 570-523-4244

- what we can do to increase diversity awareness

- Ice-skating night? Golf Outing with team from each chapter?
- REALLY want feedback!
- Keep in mind: funding for Greek non-alcoholic events is avaiolable
- Public Safety Relations
- Could be improved; need more communication
- Maybe a presentation on rule/guidelines
- Jennifer Allen: Alumni Liaison, needs alumni information from DG and KKG
- Chapter Weekly Updates/ Announcements
- Alpha Chi Omega: Allie McKendry
- Collecting nice, used jewelry to support downtown community center
- Look for upcoming emails about this project
- Chi Omega: Laura Chernak, recruitment went well!
- Delta Gamma: Claire Duffy, Regional Conference was good
- Kappa Alpha Theta: Casey Carr-Jones
- Celebrating founder’s day this week
- Looking forward to new ideas from District Leadership Conference
- Pi Beta Phi: Jillian Harvey
- Collected disposable cameras and sent them to students in New Orleans for picture/poetry project
- IFC Update: Joe Valickus, President
- Next Meeting: Wednesday, Jan 30 @ Chi Phi, 8:30pm
- Student Advisory Board for Arming Public Safety Concerns:
- Concerns?
- Campus atmosphere/ mind-set of students, unnecessary use, relations between students and public safety, call Lewisburg Police
- Challenged Panhel Execs (and all chapters) to Polar Bear Plunge (all the IFC guys are doing it)
- All chapter presidents will be invited to lunch with Joe and Mary O’Sullivan (no administrators)
- Officer Snyder
- Wants to improve communications; educate us on public safety policies
- They are here to help us so contact the him of department with any questions
- Bake Sale/ Fundraiser
- Public Saftey would provide delicious donuts!
- Any IFC/ Panhel interest in co-sponsoring this event?

- Off-Campus Living: no Greek member is approved until Chapter housing is filled (regardless of signed lease)
- FYI: Hunt Hall floor plans are in his office if a copy is needed
