General Council Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2008
Meeting was called to order at 5:30
- Roll Call
- Introductions
- Jess Scott: Focus the Nation
- National Teach-in on Jan 31st; over 500 colleges participating
- Activities focus on global climate change
- Especially want us to attend Sustainability celebration (free lunch, music, and activities at field house)
- Also need student hosts (meeting Jan 24) at events throughout the day
- Contact jess.scott@bucknell.edu if interested
- Jess Scott: One in Four
- Tentative presentation in Trout on March 4th at 6pm
- Presentation will focus on how to help a survivor; changing cultural norms
- President Reports: Mary O’Sullivan
- Vote on previous minutes
- Welcome everyone to first Panhel General Council of the year
- Greek Awards on Feb 12; need more nominations!
- Panhel Goals for 2008
- Increase communication
- More interaction and discussion at meetings
- 55% of eligible women are in Greek system—represent them!
- announce next week’s Panhel topics to chapter; encourage them to attend
- Updates from chapter Presidents with announcement, goals, and recent activities (email to mary.osullivan@bucknell.edu by Friday)
- Logistics
- how to approve previous minutes and adjourn meetings
- Panhel delegates stay afterwards with Mary to discuss responsibilities
- Panhel agendas can be found on Mary’s public space (mto002)
- plans to introduce herself at each chapter next week
- Officer Reports
- Erin Wolfe: Recruitment
- Each chapter needs to electronically submit 5 photos (eew006@bucknell.edu ); some group pictures (no boys or alcohol)
- Next week: Round 2 of recruitment; encourage recruitment chairs to attend
- Briefly meet with chapter presidents following this meeting
- Ashley Hamill: Community Service/ Philanthropy
- Alesandra Agresti: Gamma
- Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol
- Goal: fraternities and sororities co-sponsor community service or other non-alcoholic event
- Mandatory Officer meeting once a month (risk managers/social standards)
- Jennifer Allen: Alumni Liason
- Jennifer and Mary attended Alumni Greek Council (Jan 13)
- Plan for Prominence stats; one fraternity and sorority achieved silver star
- Emphasize the need to hand-in paperwork to get good standing!
- Panhel extension goal: new sorority in Fall 2009
- Chapter Weekly Updates/ Announcements
- Alpha Chi Omega: Allie McKendry
- Goals: sisterhood bonding, sorority and fraternity relations
- Chi Omega: Laura Chernak
- Spring Recruitment begins next week!
- Hope to get 7 new members

- Officer Transition Meeting last Saturday
- Look forward to exciting semester
- Kappa Alpha Theta: Casey Carr-Jones
- Goals: increase Panhel spirit
- Increase attendance at events hosted by fellow Greeks
- Kappa Kappa Gamma: Lauren Gram
- Interested in hosting community service or philanthropy events with other sororities this year (contact lauren.gram@bucknell.edu if interested)
- Lock for Love is March 3rd; start growing your hair!
- Pi Beta Phi: Jillian Harvey
- Goals: sorority relations and plan day of service for Links to Literacy
- IFC Update
- Joe Valickus: President
- Goal: increase Sorority and Fraternity interaction and communication
- All IFC meetings are open; anyone welcome to attend
- Next IFC meeting: Tuesday Jan 22, 8pm at Delta Upsilon
- Advisor’s Notes: Dean Marrara
- Excited to work with us; 16 years of experience
- Door is always open; contact him!
- Mrs. Landis has resigned
- David Goodwin hired temporarily (from Feb 4th – end of June); will help with special events and programming
- National Search for permanent replacement to begin late Feb/early March
- Panhellenic Bylaws passed out; familiarize yourself with them!
- Take note of important dates; get them on chapter calendars
- Officer Transition Workshop (Jan 14)
- New chapter presidents appreciated feed-back from past presidents
- Communication between sororities and Panhel council is key
- progress, learn, and grow together (each other’s best resources)
- Plan for Prominence Seminar (Jan 15)
- Hazing Workshop (Jan 15): take pro-active approach
- Hunt Hall
- Lists for fall housing due Feb 1st (just need names, not specific rooms)
- PA meeting on Friday; thanks to PA’s for keeping Hunt extra clean
- Need 8 Peer Advisors for next year
- One from each sorority (plus 2 additional)
- PA applications (due Feb 15th) emailed to chapter presidents
- Chapter Academic Achievement Program
- Due Feb 1st (can submit last year’s, but hold sisters accountable)
- Plan for Prominence Standing: contact Dean Marrara with questions/concerns
- Greek Night at Hockey Game
- Feb 9th @ 4:15 in Sunbury; buses provided (university sponsored event)
- SERF (Social Event Registration Forms)
- Must be filled out to reserve anything (for liability/ insurance purposes)
- Must have advisor/ university employee signature
- Must include the theme (if applicable)
- Need 3 contact name and numbers (in case of emergency)
- Must fill out sales and solicitation form if selling anything (get from RICs)
- If buses are needed, fill out form from RICs
- If alcohol is part of event
- Fill out alcohol section
- Fill out risk Management Duty Schedule and include guest list
- Must be in by Noon on Wednesday
- Must have Chapter President’s signature
- Harry Kastenbaum: BSG President
- Wants to work with Panhel and IFC in upcoming year
