Spring 2009
Penn's Womens Sectionals Haverford College
Haverford, PA
April 13th and 14th

The time has come to determine who goes and who does not go to regionals. The frogs came into the tournament ranked 7th and only the top 5 finishing spots received bids to regionals. On the first day the frogs met Shippensburg who came to sectionals playing savage. They played a great game and put up quite a fight. After a win against Shippensburg the frogs were brought back down to earth with a point-for-point match up against Carnegie Mellon. Penn State was the frog's next opponent. Ranked 2nd overall at the tournament they definitely brought their A-game. A 1-13 loss for the frogs was tough to recover from. The frogs them oved on to Pitt. While the frogs were able to score the first point (a break point!) that would be the only one. Still, a break point against a Nationals qualifying team is something to brag about! The frogs finished teh day 3-2 after a win against Allegheny. The frogs still had a chance to go to regionals. On the second day the frogs met Penn State and Carnegie Mellon and finally played Haverford. The last game of the day was Bucknell and Haverford fighting for the last bid to regionals. One of the most intense women's games ever played was littered with layouts, full field hucks, hand blocks from both teams. The score 9-15 Haverford does not reflect how close this game really was. Unfortunately the Peacefrogs didn't make it to Regionals this year but with the loss of only three seniors, regionals is definitely an attainable goal for next year!

Also, special thanks to the alum that came out to watch us! It was a great confidence booster to have a sideline!

Returning to the north and thus cold weather this tournament was hosted by Penn State. The frogs played well and surprisingly, NOT savage! (at least for the first day). Despite the weather the frogs were still 4-0 the first day. The second day did not fair as well. The frogs met the intimadating Stuyvessant High School and were not prepared for their textbook style O. After losing the extremely well trained high schoolers the frogs were done finishing 6th overall in the tournament.

High Tide Savannah, GA
March 11 through 13

The warm weather was a nice change from the harsh conditions of mountainous Lewisburg, PA. The frogs played skillfully among many worthy opponents. Every game was played with unprecedented intensity. Highlights include the honor of playing the lovely Fox Force Sevens of Syracuse TWICE, a win over American 8-7 with some of the longest points ever played in an ultimate game and a very near-win against the twice-our-size Bowdoin. Every girl played their heart out and partied twice as hard culminating in a first place title in the Chumpionship bracket. Well done, froggies!

WOO for being able to play outside again! We were savage + 1 (thanks to our special player "Denver"). It was rough to be outside again but we played really well and had a great time! Highlight of the weekend: PEGGY GOT A CALLAHAN! The first one of her career! Other highlights include Sham handling, Flex having SICK NASTY D's (I think she was up to like 10 by the end of the weekend), Sauce going long and being open all the time (as well as making up new terms for being "open", Hollywood had sickkkkk hucks, Mav drop-kicked a girl in the boob and hammers were thrown (AND CAUGHT). It was overall an amazing weekend. We played well and we played some really good teams. Thing's are looking really good for Savannah in only TWO MORE WEEKS!

This was a great tournament for us! Only an hour away and all the teams we will be seeing at later tournaments! We were so excited when Penn State brought back their semi-annual tournaments. Saturday we started off by playing a very new team, Millersville. This was a great game for both teams resulting in a "W" for the Peacefrogs! We played a great game with Haverford and though we beat them at a previous tournament they showed us what was up and capitalized bringing the Peacefrogs to a record of 1-1. They're hosting a tournament at the end of October and it should be a great match! We finished the game with an 11v.11 layout point/dinosaur point! I can't speak for Haverford but Bucknell always has a TON of fun playing those Sneetches. After this game we played a tough game against NYU. The Violet Femmes took the game but we put up a fight. After the game we played a game of miniature tanks which lifted everyone's spirits. We played a crossover game after this to determine our standings for Sunday. Unfortunately since we went 1-2 the first day we ended up in the B Bracket. We ended up taking 5th in the B bracket after a win against Johns Hopkins and Syracuse but a loss to Princeton.

We had a great showing! This one-day tournament was a great way to get back into the swing of things. We started off the morning by beating UPenn and shutting down their HO stack. Next we played UDel which was a close game and a lot of fun! After a tough loss to UDel we went on to play a close game with Haverford but this time coming out on top! Even though we lost to both Swarthmore and Penn State we put up a fight we look forward to seeing both these teams at tournaments later this semester. Great job to everyone that came! Especially all of our newbies! You were all AMAZING!!

Made it to finals! But lost to UDel. Pretty wet conditions, but good playing! We won some pretty close games against Salisbury and G Dub, i think one or both were Universe Points. The matching tie dye Bucknell shirts got muddied.

High Tide Savannah, GA Spring Break!!
March 12th to March 19th

Crappy weather, but still an awesome week!! Stayed in two houses on Tybee Island, spent a lot of time inside watching movies, building puzzles, watching basketball, cooking food, wrestling, bonding, etc. We did actually do those things.

Spring Phling Penn State, PA April

Whoa, crap weather in PA? no waayy. We played pretty well this weekend, and definitely gave Penn State a scare. This was the weekend that condemned Penn State men and women's teams. They got in trouble for messing up many many fields, i hear the guys played in large puddles. Anyway, they were banned by their school from competing in the rest of the college series.

Yale Cup Yale, CT April

Beautiful weather! Finally! We only had to wait 3 months. We didn't win any games, but it was nice to play outside for a change.

Sectionals Edinboro, PA April
16th and 17th

Stayed at Stacy's, watched Miracle before bed. In the morning at the fields, we had to deal with the lost roster business. Had to reschedule our first game Saturday to 8am on Sunday, but we did get to play the rest of the games. Everyone played well though a few disappointing losses. We won the 4th bid to Regionals!

Regionals Princeton, NJ May
7th and 8th

Stayed at Holly's Friday night, got to meet her parents, little brother, dog. Beautiful weather, would have been perfect minus the wind. Lost to CMU/Pitt, won against Fordham, lost in a close game with a huge come back by us against G Dub. So we were out after the first day of play, as were the Mudsharks. Some of us stayed to watch a guys' game and chill with Julie and Lindsey, all of our boys and most of the girls went home. We had a really great sideline all day though, thanks to parents and injured girls and a brief appearance by the boys at the last game!

We finished 5th! after going in placed 14th...We played against Princeton, UDel, Jersey (club team), Swarthmore on Saturday, taking 2nd in our pool when we lost to Udel. We had a cool half time story session with Swarthmore at the end of Saturday, interesting stories.

On Sunday we played Wicked first, it was a quick game but we got to see how a really high caliber team plays. That game was Semifinals! A player on Pounce said that we were the first team to really make the women on Wicked run this weekend! which is a cool compliment :) Then we had a tough consolation game with UDel, winner would play Pounce for 2nd. It was a long tough game, both sides really tired but playing well. we fought it out, they were savage. We held it together pretty well but lost universe point, 11-12 i think. Next we played UPenn for 5th place, it was another tough game. We only played to 7 because everyone on both sides was so exhausted. We lost universe point again, 6-7.

Great vibes! Great defensive plays, and great flow all weekend from all the girls! and our only newbie that came, Laura, had a lay out score in the endzone!

We didn't end up playing this weekend, but a group of us went up to see Diane in Madison and watch the guys play. Jess and I (chia yi) stayed the whole day saturday to watch the guys, and met some of Diane's high school friends that night. Overall, a really really fun weekend with great weather! I saw maybe 5 or 6 people playing from my ultimate team in high school. We hope to play at Yale in the spring!

We were Risky Business this year!

Saturday started out against Vassar. They had a few strong players, especially Judy who is also very tall. We started out with our zone and proved that we are once again a zone team. We won. Great job frogs! next we played Haverford. Always super spirited, and the hosts of the tournament, we always have a fun game with these sneetches. Audrey had a great lay out in the endzone during this game! Against Drew, we were able to relax a little and let our newbies take the game for us. We put in mostly newbs in the first half and all newbies in the second half. It looked like they all learned a lot from the experience! And, they only let the other team score on them twice during their half. Last for pool play, we were up against Johns Hopkins, who we played last year at this tournament as well. They are pretty skilled, with a few scrappy players who know where to go. This was the hardest game for us on Saturday but we were able to pull away with the win, 12-8.

Sunday, Quarterfinals we were up against Fordham from the Bronx in my hometown, NYC. Despite some misunderstandings with a few line calls in the beginning, it ended up being a spirited game. Fordham played really well and broke our zone multiple times, so we really had to focus and play smart against them. The wind helped us out a few times and Holly hucked it to Katie multiple times.

Semifinals against NYU was a little frustrating as always when we play the Violet Femmes, but still good. They didn’t chant the Violet Femmes after every score this time, which was nice. It is always hard for us to strategize against this team because we haven’t figured out how we need to play to be effective. It was a fun spirited game nonetheless.

We played UPenn for 3rd place. A few sketchy calls and a slightyly bitter vibe from this game, but we won at the end.

But…Great weekend ladies! Awesome playing from everyone!!!

we went into this tournament ranked 1st overall!! the party on Friday night was a lot of fun, though only 4 of us went. we won our pool on Saturday by winning all four games. we only had 8 girls for this tournament but still managed to kick some butt. our zone pretty much shut down all the teams that we played. we beat Salisbury 13-3, Richmond 12-1, William and mary 13-3 and pitt B 11-3. the weather was really nice on Saturday, though the ground was pretty frozen most of the morning. They supplied peanut butter, jelly, nutella, and fluff to make sandwiches for lunch! Sunday was canceled due to a big snow storm that hit overnight. everyone made it home safely though.

March 3rd and 4th
we only had 7 or 8 girls for this tournament, but still managed to tie for 5th! we won our pool by beating UDel B 13-2, SMUT 13-0, SWAT 7-1. Danielle had a huge block on the tall girl in the UDel B game. she was trying to huck it and Danielle put her arms up. Laura had a Callahan in the SMUT game, Jackie had her first lay out score though I don’t remember which game it was in. we lost in the crossover game versus UDel 5-10. we went to the Olive Garden for dinner Saturday night. Thank you to Hwood who treated us!!

Sunday we played U of Maryland in the quaterfinals, lost 9-13. the intensity of this game was great and it was closer than the score shows because we really picked it up in the second half. our zone offense really started to work it and we were catching up. then we played Messiah. this game was a little messy, and our fatigue started to affect our playing but we pulled out a win 10-8. they worked our zone pretty well but we managed to come back and win on Laura’s second Callahan of the weekend. The last game, we played U of Maryland again. this game was just as intense if not more than the time we played them earlier that day. we agreed to play to 9 because we were all exhausted but still wanted to play. we were down 5-1 at the half, but then had a huge come back in the second half to make it 8-7 on their game point. there were several great plays and our zone was looking great even though we were tired! they only managed to score with their A line out, and even then we scored several times on them. But a few messy calls and they take the game 9-7.

Overall, we played phenomenally well for the number of people present! The savage jokes will never get old, and we forgot to take a team picture. We are going to Savannah next week!

High Tide Session 2 Savannah, GA March 12th-15th

Savannah was awesome as usual! It was a little sad to be my last one, but we had a killer time and kicked some butt as well. We went into the tournament seeded third, and left tied for third, so think we did a great job!

Captains meeting was on Monday after hat tournament, which Hana was in the finals of! Sketchy Scott and Solo were on the opposing team. The free dinner was a long wait but great food!
We won our pool on Tuesday by beating Wesleyan 13-4, Bowdoin 13-5, American + St. Mary’s 13-2. We were repooled for Wednesday and won that pool too by beating UM Duluth 13-6, Skidmore 13-1, and Syracuse (who I played with for Trouble in Vegas in February!) 13-1.

So, Thursday is bracket play, single elimination. We have a pretty good win in the Quaterfinals against CMU, 12-6, and go on to play NYU in the semifinals. We lose to them 11-1 in what is mostly a mental battle that turns into us messing up a lot when we shouldn’t be. That is ok though, because we showed them in the last point that we have a lot of spirit and deserve to be there because we are a great team all around.

Great job ladies! I’m excited to see what we can do with the rest of our season!

We didn't win very many games, but everyone played really well! Very impressed with the newbies too! Every new girl contributed and we even had a Callahan and a lay out score! We had a number of runs during the weekend that were each at least 5 points. Against CMU, we came from behind to win 12 to 10 from being down at 10-6. At least that is what I remember.

Congrats to the Mudsharks for making it to finals!! They put up a fight but lost 15-11.

Great playing by everyone! So sad to be back.

We took 3rd! We fought hard to get to semis but had to play a consolation game against Gettysburg. We took an early lead but they came back when we started to play sloppier.
Our guys came to watch the end of the game and saw us close it out to take 3rd at the end of an exhausting weekend. man i love playing in tournaments.
