CHAPTER HISTORY

Gamma Gamma was formed in the fall of 1977 by a group of thirty-five girls headed by Gari Lee Demas, not just to add another sorority to Bucknell University's existing eight, but to add another dimension to the sorority system. Despite the diversity of interests of the girls, a feeling of closeness evolved. The girls worked throughout the winter to become recognized by the University and to prepare for spring rush.

Rush in February was a success with 31 girls pledging Gamma Gamma. The month was highlighted by official University recognition. Meetings were held in the forum of the University Center until June when a suite in Hunt was made available.

The idea of going national had been considered as far back as the fall of 1977. Delta Gamma was chosen over all others in the event of a national sorority being wanted. In March, with rush over and things settling down, it was time for the decision to be made: Should Gamma Gamma petition Delta Gamma to become one of their colonies? Gamma Gamma voted in favor of this; the petition was accepted, and on September 9, 1978 forty-one girls were pledged by Delta Gamma. Their activation was held on November 17, 1978. These girls are the chapter members of the Epsilon Beta chapter of Delta Gamma.
