Originally founded as the Starletts Drill Team, this student-run organization transformed itself into the Bison Girls Dance Team in 1998. Poms and kick lines were traded for a new look and hip hop style dancing. The team performs at every home Bison basketball game, and for special events on campus.

The 2007-2008 Bison Girls Dance Team consists of 20 members. The total number of team members each season remains between 14 and 20. Team officers include a president who handles general business, two co-captains who choreograph dances and run practices, and a treasurer who handles team finances. Decision-making, however, is a team process and all members are encouraged to help with choreography.

During basketball season, the team practices 3-4 nights per week. While there are no fees charged to individual team members, each Bison Girl is asked to purchase her own shoes. Occasionally, the members will also purchase team apparel, hair ribbons or other small accessories.
