General Facilities

Bucknell's extensive facilities and wide range of organized athletics, physical education, and recreation entice nearly everyone into some form of physical activity. The Recreation and Athletics Center is the focal point of much of the activity. This newly expanded facility includes the Krebs Fitness Center, the Kinney Natatorium, Davis Gym, the Sojka Pavilion and the Gerhard Fieldhouse.

The main floor of the Fieldhouse includes a 200-meter track; courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball; and facilities for field events. The 2 1/2 acre building also includes six raquetball/handball courts, three squash courts, an erg room, a climbing wall, a dance studio and aerobics room, locker rooms, saunas, athletic training areas, a classroom, offices, two lounges, and the Bucknell Athletic Hall of Fame.

Davis Gym is the arena for volleyball, and also is available for recreational use. The Krebs Fitness Center features extensive Cybex circuit training equipment, olympic free-weights and cardio-vascular machines which are available for use by the student body, faculty, staff, and varsity athletic teams. Christy-Mathewson Memorial Stadium, featuring new lighting and turf playing surface, is home to the football, men's lacrosse, and outdoor track and field programs. The lighted field complex at Bucknell West includes varsity baseball and softball fields; is home for the varsity field hockey, women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer programs; and is the site of widespread intramural, club sports, and recreational activity.

As a key element in keeping Bucknell's athletic, recreation, and fitness programs competitive, construction was completed in 2003 on the new Kennth Langone Recreation and Athletics Center. The facilities housed in the new RAC include:

What makes Bucknell University unique?

Patriot League = one of the top academic conferences in the nation, comprised of American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, and Navy.

Bucknell University is a founding member of the Patriot League, an organization of schools dedicated to the scholar-athlete model. Here, sports never come before class. Students find that they can easily manage their course-load and full participation on a varsity team, because there is no conflict of interests. The athletic department works with its academic counter-parts to guarantee a well-rounded college experience.

Patriot League schools compete every year for the President's Cup, a prize that goes to the institution which accumulates the highest point total over the entire academic year, with points awarded on the basis of finish in the standings of each of the 22 Patriot League sports. Not only has Bucknell won the President's Cup ten times in the past 13 years, but it is also third in the nation for the total number of national Academic All-Americans selections. In 2001-2002, Bucknell also led the league in number of members on the Patriot League Honor roll.
