Finding the Right Fraternity

What to Look for in a Fraternity

- Marc Henry

It's easy to get swept away in the excitement of Rush - the great food, seeing the houses, and meeting an unbelievable amount of new people. When the time comes, it's down to the candidates themselves to determine where they want to go and how to increase their chances of a Bid. The most important facet of this deliberation is actually quite simple: Go where you feel the most at home!

Too many times excellent men drop out of Rush and become jaded towards the Fraternity System due to the lack of diligence on which fraternity to join. Talk to brothers as much as possible to find which Fraternity exalts what you are looking for, be it a wild social scene, a passion for service, a true sense of brotherhood and unity, or any combination in between. Not only will this let you figure out which Chapter you would fit well in, but also lets the Brothers of that Fraternity know your traits and personality- the most important things for them to know come Bid time.

So enjoy Rush. It is a period directed solely at impressing and catering to you. However, look through the barbeque and entertainment and discover whether the Fraternity members around you are men you can truly call "brothers."
