The Pledging Process

Chi Phi New Member Bill of Rights

This bill of rights applies to any and all men who pledge their allegiance to the Chi Phi Fraternity, and seek admittance into this brotherhood. These rights are undeniable and are implemented in the spirit of brotherhood, assuring that the founding principles of our fraternity remain at the center of our lives as brothers as we usher in new life to our fraternity, extending the honored tradition that was set forth by our forefathers. It is with the creed in mind that we set forth these rights in troubled times, seeking to once again claim our place in history, at the forefront of fraternity, with standards of brotherhood above and beyond those deemed necessary by society.

1. Any and all New Members have the right to not engage in any activity in the New Member education process which they feel may endanger their health, given they present valid reason for concern.

2. Any New Member who feels they are being treated unjustly by any initiated brother currently in or associated with the fraternity holds the right to report said mistreatment to the New Member Educator, the Zeta, the Beta, the Alpha, or the national office without repercussion.

3. Any New Member may abstain from an activity in the event that it conflicts with previously noted academic responsibilities.

4. New Members are allowed to set up parameters as to when they are truthfully unavailable to participate in brotherhood activities and are encouraged to set up these parameters and notify the New Member educator and their Pop before the program begins so as to avoid conflicts or confusion (especially in the case of athletics and employment).

5. A New Member may retake without penalty, any failed or missed portion of any general knowledge or chapter tests. The retaking of said test must occur within three days of the previous failure, missed test.

6. A New Member is not expected to adhere to any "penalty" that is not handed down by the judicial committee.

7. Infractions of house rules and or New Member education expectations are to be handled by the judicial committee with the appropriate recommendations for action provided by the New Member Educator.

Explaining the BoR

Many Fraternities detail their dedication to maintaining their New Member's respect and dignity only to secretly haze or harm. These actions are not tolerated at Chi Phi in any sense and the New Member BoR was crafted to set guidelines for both Brothers and New Members as to what expectations are through the entire pledge process.
