Chapter History

Cooperation and Communication

Linking with PSU

At this point the link with Pennsylvania State College was forged. On October 3 and 14, 1925 a committee from the State College came to Bucknell to make financial arrangements for the installation of the Common Club as the Gamma chapter. At the same time, the group petitioned the faculty for permission to become a chapter of a Greek letter fraternity. This petition was unanimously accepted by the faculty at its October 1925 meeting.

The installation took place on October 31 of that year in the clubrooms of the Bucknell Commons Club. "P.C." Wallace, the clubs President, and some twenty-six other students were installed as charter members of the new fraternity.

The group then settled in to a pattern of social, educational and cultural activities not unlike those of present day students. There were dances, weekend parties, the pitfalls of dating one girl exclusively and the resultant loss of fraternity pins.

During the latter years of the "Twenties", the Gamma Chapter of Phi Lambda Theta continued to prosper. Our chapter was joined by new chapters at Susquehanna University and Waynesburg College. At a later date, Kansas State chartered a chapter. An official fraternity publication, "The Star and Balance", was created.
