Chapter History

The history begins at Penn State

The Beginning

At the conclusion of World War I American colleges were filled with older college students. A surprising number of these men belonged to the independent Order of Odd fellows, Lodge No. 1032 of the Pennsylvania State College, now Penn State University. A few of these students at Penn State conceived the idea of founding a fraternity composed of students who were odd fellows.

They called a meeting of students belonging to the State College Lodge and other lodges to discuss the project. Eventually, in the Fall of 1920, a petition was presented to Penn State officials asking permission to form a fraternity based on the principles of Odd Fellowship. The petition was granted and on November 18, 1920, a new fraternity was created.

Since the fraternity was founded on the principles of Odd Fellowship, they originally took as their name "Three Links", and adopted the three links of friendship, love and truth as their symbol.

During the remainder of the 1920-21 school year, meetings were held in a rented room in the basement of the Odd Fellows Hall in State College.
