The 1996 Pan Am Intercollegiate

The Bucknell University Chess team won the under-1600 top prize at the 1996 Pan Am Chess Championships in Baltimore. The team shared the award with Boston University, finishing with 3 points in the 6-round swiss. The tournament took place on December 27-30, 1996 in Baltimore, MD.

The representatives for Bucknell's championship 1996 chess team were:

1st board: John Dolores (1.5 points)
2nd board: Bob Dyson (3.5 points)
3rd board: Claude Banta (3.5 points)
4th board: Forrest Lysinger (3.5 points)

Round 1: Univ. of Montreal: 3.5 - Bucknell: 0.5  (L)
Round 2: Canisius: 3 - Bucknell: 1  (L) 
Round 3: Bucknell: 3 - R.I.T.: 1  (W)
Round 4: Drexel: 3 - Bucknell 1  (L)
Round 5: Bucknell: 4 - R.I.C. B: 0  (W)
Round 6: Bucknell: 2.5 - West Virginia: 1.5  (W)

Total Team Points: 3.0
Total Individual Points: 12

Boston University was tied with 3.0 team points for the top under-1600 award. Bucknell had 12 individual points to Boston University's 9. However, since Bucknell was unrated, the prize was split between the two BU's.
