Welcome visitors, friends, sisters and alumnae to the website of Eta Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega! Alpha Chi Omega’s mission is to enrich the lives of members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning and service. Alpha Chi maintains a long-standing tradition of excellence with a group of women who are actively involved in campus life, leadership, and academics. While our sisters stand for the same values and live by the same mission, each Alpha Chi brings a unique gift to the sisterhood. We are composed of a unique array of scholars, varsity athletes, talented artists, and community leaders.
Alpha Chi Omega started off the spring 2008 semester with great news, when our former chapter President, Alyssa Beckler, as well as our faculty advisor, Jane Haile, were honored at the University Greek Awards. Alyssa received a Creative Programming award for bringing Andrea Cooper to campus to present “Kristin’s Story;” a riveting program about sexual assault awareness. In addition, Haile was a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Advisor Award, as she has devoted much time and energy to the betterment our chapter.
We are currently in the midst of a philanthropy project titled “A New Materialism,” in which we collect lightly used jewelry to be sold downtown at Terra Sylvan. All proceeds from this project will be donated to the Donald Heiter Community Center. In addition, Alpha Chi will have three teams participating in Relay for Life at the end of April, hosted by Bucknell’s Colleges Against Cancer organization. We are excited to report that as of the end of March, our three teams have surpassed the goal of $4,700 to raise a combined $5,764.00!
We have also been building relationships with other Greek organizations on campus. Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Gamma hosted an ice cream social in February. This event was a great way to get to know the sisters of Delta Gamma as well as first-year attendees, and we are anxious to co-host events with other sororities in the future. Similarly, we are looking forward to our major philanthropic event of the spring, our second-annual volleyball tournament with the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon. The tournament was a great success last year, and we hope to build on that!
All in all, Alpha Chi Omega has had a very exciting start to 2008. We are enjoying one last semester with our loving senior sisters, and look forward to welcoming a new pledge class next fall. We are very excited to meet the first-year women on Open Suites on Wednesday, April 16th, and highly encourage attendence to learn more about Greek Life at Bucknell.
I am honored to serve as the 2008 Chapter President and thrilled to have a talented Executive Board of Vice Presidents as well as dedicated supporting positions to work with. I plan to continue to build relationships with our fellow Greek organizations while achieving success internally through our philanthropic efforts, community service, and sisterhood bonding & unity.
Loyally,
Allison McKendry
